Summer is my second favorite season (I don’t think anything can beat fall). It’s definitely the season where we’ve been spending the most time outside adventuring and exploring! Last summer, Aiden was still a newborn and we were in the midst of a lot of difficulties with his reflux and allergy challenges, so I feel like we did not enjoy summer to it’s fullest potential. So, it’s been my goal this summer to spend as much time outdoors as possible!
Because of this, I’m finding that some of our usual Montessori-inspired shelf work and activities aren’t seeing a lot of attention, which is fine with me because the real-life outdoor explorations and practical work are so valuable. However, one indoor activity that is still a daily occurrence this summer is reading. It’s an activity that my boys still love doing together before naps and bedtime. We’ve even taken our books out to the park a few times to enjoy while we take a snack break!
My boys read a range of books, but I always like to include some seasonal options so they have some exposure to the seasonal differences. There’s so much learning potential with the summer books! These are some of the Montessori-friendly (based in reality) summer themed books Asher and Aiden have been enjoying at 3 years and 1 year:
Montessori Friendly Summer Books for Infants & Toddlers
one | Baby Loves Summer– These Karen Katz books are so perfect for babies and young toddlers. Flaps and quick page reads!
two | Where is Baby’s Beach Ball?
three | Summer (seasons board book)
four | Summer Touch & Feel Board Book– The books from this publisher are favorites at our house. Great vocabulary exposure and fun touch and feel images for babies!
five | Summer: A Pop-Up Book
six | Good Night Summer– Part of another series we love!
seven | Sun, Sun
eight | And Then Comes Summer– Such a great book written in lyrical form that talks about many of the things we all look forward to about summer! My boys love the illustrations.
nine | Summer Days and Nights
ten | Summer
eleven | A Lullaby of Summer Things
twelve | Summer is Here
thirteen | Mama, Is It Summer Yet?
fourteen | Summertime in the Big Woods– Asher loves reading these “My First Little House” books because they show practical life activities that children regularly did.
fifteen | Is It Warm Enough for Ice Cream?
sixteen | I See Summer
seventeen | The Night Before the Fourth of July
eighteen | What Can You See in Summer?– An awesome non-fiction book that talks about the realistic things that can be seen in nature as the season changes into summer.
And that’s a wrap on the Montessori friendly summer themed books the boys have been enjoying! Hope you found a few new ones to add to your list! What books do your children enjoy in the summer?
