We’re SO ready for spring in our house. This past Michigan winter was a long one, and I think we’re all thankful that we’re finally starting to see the sun again and the giant snow piles are (almost) all completely melted. A switch in seasons also means a switch in our seasonal books. I recently packed up our winter books and put our spring-themed books out on the shelf. Both Asher and Aiden have been enjoying some fresh reading material!
Overall, we read a wide variety of books, including some with non-realistic characters and plot lines, but I always like to make sure that we have a good selection of Montessori-friendly books out. This includes fiction and non-fiction, but I especially love including non-fiction because it’s so important for reading comprehension as kids begin reading articles and textbooks later in school. It also exposes toddlers and preschoolers to a wealth of information so that they begin to build their prior knowledge in a variety of areas. Since reading is an activity that both of my boys can enjoy together right now, it’s something that we spend a lot of time doing. Here’s a bit about some of our favorite Montessori-friendly spring books:
one | Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt– I love all of Kate Messner’s books! They’re wonderful for positional language. Asher loves to look at the different bugs in this book.
two | When Spring Comes– This sweet book gives kids a beautiful description and images of what happens outside when the seasons change into spring.
three | Planting a Rainbow– This was a favorite for Asher last spring, and both boys are enjoying it now! It’s a great way for toddlers to read more about colors and how flowers grow.
four | It’s Spring!– This book is excellent for describing many parts of spring for kids. It even describes what to wear in the new season!
five | We Are the Gardeners– This new release from Joanna Gaines is the sweetest and I love the illustrations! We pre-ordered this and I’m so glad that we did. Asher has been loving reading about how the Gaines’ family learned to garden!
six | Animals in Spring– The other books in this series are excellent too (Weather in Spring, Plants in Spring, People in Spring) Asher loves to learn about different types of animals and see the real photos, so this one is his favorite in the series.
seven | Everything Spring– Another great one for toddlers or preschoolers who love animals! The photos of the baby animals are so fun to look at.
eight | I See Spring– My boys love the rhyming in this book! This is a fun and quick read that we often do together since it is shorter for Aiden to sit through.
nine | Spring– We have quite a few of these touch and feel books from Priddy Books, and I think they are the perfect books for older babies. At 12 months, Aiden loves to sit and flip through the pages, touching the chick and bunny. I also love that they use realistic images!
ten | Baby Loves Spring!– Also baby-favorites! The topics are usually realistic and the flaps are interactive and fun! The repetitive text is also great for beginning literacy.

I own all of the books you listed and have been very lucky that my son likes to read as much as I do. We still visit these books from time to time since he is now 4 his reading level is more advanced.

Wonderful! It’s nice to hear that he still likes to go back to them sometimes. I often wonder how long the life of some books really is. We’re a big reading family here too!

We love reading in our household. Number 10 is a favorite in our home. All of these books are wonderful. I think that they would make great Easter Basket fillers too. I need to add the books we do not have to our wish list. Thank you.
