Fall is hands-down my favorite season. We’re not not quite to the time for seasons to change yet, but the cooler weather we’ve been having in Michigan has been giving me all of the fall vibes. I just put away our summer books and got out all of our fall-themed books last week, with a few new choices added in. My boys read many types of books and my oldest certainly has character-based  favorites like Curious George and Berenstain Bears, but I always include Montessori-friendly books on their shelves as well.
Montessori Fall Books for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers:
Some of our Montessori-friendly books are fictional and some are non-fiction. As a reading interventionist, I’ve seen the importance of kids being exposed to both of these types of books. This book list also has a mix of interactive board books that are perfect for babies, picture books with rhymes and repetitive sentences for toddlers, and books that explain how seasons change and things grow for the curious preschooler! Here are the Montessori-friendly books we’ve been enjoying this fall:
one | Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn– Such a sweet book for older toddlers and preschoolers. It shows a girl observing how animals and nature change as summer ends. It’s debatably Montessori friendly since the second page on each spread is supposedly an animal of part of nature responding to the girl. However, it’s not obvious and still Montessori friendly enough for us!
two | Apples and Pumpkins– One of Asher’s favorites this year.
three | Because of an Acorn– This picture book has beautiful images that help to show how an acorn is connected to other things in the ecosystem.
four | Full of Fall– At 3, Asher is naturally curious about the way everything works, grows, and is made. This book has been great for satisfying some curiosity about how leaves change color.
five | Fall Weather– A great non-fiction choice for older toddlers and preschoolers! This book shows how people and animals get ready for cooler autumn weather!
six | The Roll-Away Pumpkin– The illustrations in this book are so pretty, and the reading-specialist in me loves that it uses repetitive sentences. Great for early literacy!
seven | We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt– Asher loves the classic book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt so much. I knew this book to the same “tune” would be a favorite! He loves this cute book about friends searching for leaves.
eight| Fall Leaves– Any book about nature is a favorite around here, so this one about how nature changes as autumn comes is perfect. Part of it is written in poetry, which I also like to expose the boys too.
nine | Apples– We’ve been using this one as part of the apples unit exploration we just started. Great non-fiction!
ten | Apples, Apples Everywhere!– This book is new to us this year. It’s also been part of our apples exploration and it explains the seasonal apple harvest well for older toddlers and preschoolers.
eleven | Thanksgiving in the Woods– I should probably write a whole Thanksgiving-themed books post and I realize this won’t apply to everyone, but I had to include this book because it is AMAZING. The illustrations are beautiful and it tells such a sweet story about a family and their friends getting ready for their Thanksgiving celebration. This is a heart-warming favorite.
twelve | Autumn– This board book doesn’t have text, but Aiden and Asher both have been enjoying the pictures, especially of the jam making!
thirteen| Fall– A super cute board book that explores the season of fall. Aiden loves the pictures in this. Perfect for babies!
fourteen| Fall Touch and Feel– This board book is perfect for babies and young toddlers! My boys love the tactile touch and feel pages of all of these Bright Baby books.
fifteen | Baby Loves Fall!– These Karen Katz lift the flap books are all so cute. Aiden loved this one last fall at 6 months and is still enjoying it again this fall at almost 18 months! It is interactive and I love that it shows babies simple, realistic fall objects in a fun way.
sixteen | I Love Fall!– Another simple and engaging touch and feel board book that is great for babies!
seventeen | Happy Thanksgiving– My boys have both loved this board book. It explains some of the vocabulary related to Thanksgiving. It has a mix of illustrations and photographs.
eighteen | Touch and Feel Fall– We love the interactive parts of this padded board book!
We’ll be continuing to read these Montessori-friendly books on repeat through the fall season around here. What autumn books do your kids or students enjoy?

Thanks for the list! I have some of these books and now I’ll definitely order some more. Shame Amazon doesn’t have affordable shipping to where I am.

That really is a shame! Admittedly, I don’t know what I would do without Amazon Prime. I’m glad the list was helpful! Seasonal books are so fun. Thanks for reading!
